The
Dead Rise
That first five
minutes awake is always a little disorienting -- some hushed discussions
in a nearby tent rouse you first; some conversations from the hold-outs
by the fire make you stir again; a brush of condensation from the tent wall across the face,
and then you're finally awake. Oh God, you're awake. Someone please take
away the pain...
After one heck
of a jovial night, everyone slowly starting shaking off their sleep
and hangoves, and wandered over to the fire and pavilions for coffee,
a smoke, and an eaerly morning warm-up. (Hats off to Rhino and the breakfast
crew.) Some folks woke up chipper. Others looked like soldiers wandering
out of the bush after a night of heavy shelling.
But then the coffee
and food starts hitting the spot, and the wise cracks start getting
dropped into conversation, and pretty soon everyone's feeling good,
retelling the night's highlights and poking fun at each other.
Once awake and
in good spirits, everyone eventually started cleaning up the property
and packing their gear to get ready for the ride home.
